 Agisters and Commoners have been rounding up the New Forest ponies on horseback and on foot since being ordered by Henry the VIII in 1540.  Once the ponies are in the pens, routine checks are carried out, and it is also an opportunity for the Commoners (owners) to bring in any of their stock. Tail hair is cut by the Agister using scissors, confirming that the marking/grazing fee has been paid and the ponies are let loose back onto the forest.

 

Tails Of The Forest has created a unique memento from Forest Pony Tail Hair for those who love our ponies. This unique handmade key charm can be attached to your keys, bag or purse.  

 

It serves as  an important  reminder that our ponies are precious, so please drive slowly, do not touch or feed them.  If you do they can become aggressive and a nuisance, which can lead them to being taken off the forest and possibly destroyed.
